Adjusted Net Efficiency (ANE) is a metric used to evaluate a team’s overall performance by comparing its offensive and defensive efficiency, while accounting for factors like the strength of its opponents and the pace of play.
ANE is calculated by adjusting a team’s offensive and defensive efficiencies for the quality of teams they’ve faced (strength of schedule) and the number of possessions per game (pace). The result gives a clearer picture of how effective a team is per possession, regardless of who they play or how fast they play.
