Weighted Performance Index (WPI) is a team statistic that utilizes wOBA for offense and FIP for pitching to get a full picture of team performance.
WPI is scaled to look similar to win percentage, so teams that are above .500 are “winning” teams and those closer to 1.000 are championship level teams. Given the shorter games and more prolific offense or complete lack thereof, in general, the WPI numbers will skew higher compared to baseball. Hence the small number of teams that are very close and even over 1.000.
